To Faux or not to Faux

Faux Fur
Real Fur

Talking about this years trends has bought me on to the issue of fur. Real fur is massive this season, and to be honest, to me, like animal print, denim, leather etc evan when it goes out of fashion, its still in fashion, hanging at the back of everyones wardrobe just waitin to come bk into vogue, and being worn by those people who differ from the trends and set the new trends. However the issue surrounding fur has now, over recent years, become quite controversial. Real fur has been used by designers for decades, it has always been the piece de la resistance, a luxuary item for customers who want to feel the quality of what there buying and for many people is a statement garment of their wealth. Many years ago my generations grandmas, aunties etc owned many real fur jackets, and how they were made and how the fur was obtained was not questioned nor an issue. Nowadays if you own a real fur designer jacket it will set you back thousands and not every tom dick and harry can afford one, and due to years of campaigners and anti-rights activists we now know where that real fur were wearing has come from and now not every tom, dick and harry wants one. In the 20's 30's 40's etc you were complemented on wearing real fur jackets, now if your seen to be in what looks like a real fur coat, you get sneers or comments etc. I was once wearing a faux fur leopard print jacket whilst on the tube and due to the jacket being pretty good quality and looking quite real, a woman came upto me and said i should be disgusted with myself for parading around in real fur, the fact i was a poor trampy looking student getting of at dagenham station should have gave her the clue it wasn't real, but i actually thought it was going to be one of those paint thrown over my jacket moments lol.....I am absolutely against real fur, animal testing and anything along those lines and i am a member of peta and a regular vegetarian who sometimes falls a bit by the wayside when i smell or see seafood :-) however evan in the name of fashion you would never ever get me in a real fur jacket. I do not understand how in this day and age with all the campaigns going on, all the shocking videos released, all the celebrities turning there back on real fur, there are stil people that wear real fur and more shocking than that, the amount of people wearing it is on the up. I am not someone who would preach or push my views on other people and i certainly would not judge someone if they were wearing a real fur jacket, as i have many friends that do, i just find it hard to know that people own cats, dogs, rabbits etc and they can wear a fur coat knowing full well what has happened to the animal in order for that coat to be made....I personally blame the designers. These days you can purchase high quality, quite expensive faux fur jackets that look identical to real fur jackets.. So the question is, in these times with faux fur coats looking and feeling so real, is it time we stopped making and buying real fur jackets. Unfortunatly i can not see designers cuttin back on the use of real fur nor the cusmtomers stopping buying real fur anytime soon.

Real Fur or Faux fur?

winter time

Winter time....my worst time of year

I am a bit of a hot bod and never feel the cold so i like to be in as little clothes as possible, which during the winter often gains me very odd looks.....thick hot itchy scratchy jumpers, jackets, layers, scarves, jeans with tights under, skirts with tights eurrrghhhhhhh

however just because i dnt like to wear the 'in' winter fashion pieces doesnt mean i dnt love the new 'in' fashion winter pieces and rush to buy them as soon as primark and h&m stock em in...so below i have picked my favourite top ten must have pieces or styles for the winter.

At the top of my list, of course, is the aviator/shearling jacket. This one above is one of my faves and is from Topshop

Next is what i like to refer to as the 'Whitney Headband'. They have great ones in primark for about £2

Velvet leggings...maroon, deep purple, grey and indigo blue are my fave colours for the winter season

I am so happy tapestry bags are back in vogue, i love them, and best of all everyones mum, gran or autie owed these bags back when they were last in fashion, so go raid there closets and be in fashion for free :-)
Socks and heels.....bonus of this being can stil wear your hot barely there strappy shoes in the winter and keep ya tootsies warm with some cute socks. Woman team the socks with heels, boat shoes, boots, dr martens, sandals, trainers etc Men do not combine any type of shoe and sock especialy socks and sandals ( Seriously in this day'n age y is that crime stil committed ? )

Next on trend this season is animal print. To me animal print never really goes out of fashion, ok so when its not in fashion its quite a tacky design/print however put on a animal print dress, jumpsuit or skirt and it always provides instant glamour and strikingness...personally i think the best animal prints are leopard, zebra and cow print...And in the fashion world no-one does animal print like Roberto Cavalli
Whether it be leather gloves, suede gloves, studded gloves, elbow gloves, wrist gloves...Gloves are in this autumn
Think bright, neon, bold, 80's style fluro colours......

Transparent materials, lace, ruffels, its all in this a/w go for black or browns to goth it up or go for nudes and corals for a pretty girly look

And last but not least, my favourite, baggy knitted boyfriend cardigans. My fave are the off cream aran cardigans :-)

Many other trends this a/w include leather, cosmic and abstract print and designs, fur, red & crimson colours, nude, pale peachy colours, camel/butter suede colouring is very big right now, minimilist cuts, sharp tailouring, clothing with creates a silhoute look, bold statement buttons, 70's high waisted pants, clinched in waist using sash's, chic trench coats, glitter, embellishment and studs, masculine style trends i.e sharp shoulder pads etc...The list goes on

Lanvin at h&m

So, last month, H&M finally announced that it will be collaberating with designer Lanvin, and the collection will hit 200 stores worldwide on November 23rd. I am very excited about this as every collabaration h&m have done i buy a piece, and now i can afford and own an item of one of my all times fave designers.... the pieces will be unveiled 2nd November, i can't wait :-)

Olivia Palermo

So i've decided to do a monthly style report on who i think is the stylista of the moment. My first one has to be dedicated to Ms Olivia Palermo. She is a girl we all love to hate, just watching her on the City makes me wonder how and why she has any friends at all, and the things she comes out with portray her as a snooty cow, HOWEVER, there's no denying girlfriend has style, very few times have i seen her make a fashion faux pas and the fashion she does wear is second to none. There's no denying she is a beautiful girl and her designer label/couture style oozes classiness and sophistication. Below are some of my favourite outfits she has donned in the past.

LV Fall 2010 campaign

Absolutely loving the new Louis Vuitton 50s inspired campaign for fall 2010. At 41 Christy Turlington still has got it going on. Here's a few of my favourite pics.

Isabel Marant

This woman is seriously hot stuff right now, you can't open an issue of vogue or cosmo or glamour without her name popping up. She is a French designer from Paris who has created a line of upmarket wardrobe must haves. She first launched her label in 1989 but it wasn't until 1994 she moved away from jewellery and accessories and branched into designer clothing as well. Her designs and styles are very basic and effortless and have given rise to her clothing being representative of 'Parisian chic' style, that sort of style that French women seem to easily ooze. Below are a few of my fave pieces from her SS10 collection and her AW10 collection x

SATC 2

I am one of the biggest Sex and the City fans ever, and so you can imagine my joy when the first film came out last year, however, i left the film a little disappointed to say the least. I had high hopes for the sequel but again came out disappointed evan more than the first time. The films just aren't as real as the series used to be, however it definitely delivered in the fashion stakes as usual, and it is reported ruffly $11 million dollars was spent out outfits and accsessories!

I was so excited when Carrie wore not 1 but 4 Halston Herritage dresses. Halston is one of my all time fave american designers some of his pieces are classic. I'm lucky enough to own two Halston pieces, one item i bought from a boot sale for £2, im not too sure the woman realised how much Halston pieces usually sold for, anyway lucky me. Ive pictured below the four herritage dresses, my fave is the beautiful orange dress.

The two best outfits of the film, in my opinion, were the Julien McDonald dress worn by Miranda and the jumpsuit ensemble worn by Carrie.

Here's some other great items worn in the film.

Brian Atwood Loca Studded Heels

Yves Saint Laurent embossed clutch with crystal clasp

Retro Christian Dior Newspaper print dress which Carrie wore back in season 3

East End Thrift Store

Off to one of my favourite thrift stores today. Its having one of its regular jumble sales in which you buy a medium bag for £10 or a large bag for £20 and then you grab everything you like and try and stuff it all into your bag, its an absolute bargain and i always get some great pieces. Downside is everyone loves this event and it is always so busy, the q's are unbelievable, and so for that reason im getting up at 7am on a sunday morning, what us gals do for fashion :-) il post my buys on here tomoz x

matryoshka doll

I have an obsession with matryoshka dolls right now (russian dolls) i think they are really cute and quirky and i have officially gone russian doll mad, ive been buying bags , earings, necklaces, purses, headbands etc, there is also some great fabric around with the russian doll print on it and i have found a really nice piece of material to make into a dress. (ive pictured a few of my recent purchases below) x

This is the material im purchasing to make my dress and im going on the basis of this pattern of a 1950s rockabilly dress.

My Summer Wishlist

So its that time of year again, Summer, yay......holidays, festivals, sunbathing and all night partying and an excuse to buy loads more stuff for your summer wardrobe. Every year i draw up my wishlist of every outfit (down to the last detail such as jewellery) that i want for all my up and coming events :-) below ive listed a few of my fave must haves this year, not all this seasons collections, but hot stuff watever.

I love love love this Topshop Kiss-O-Meter dress. It came out last year and was 50£ but it flew of the shelves and i never managed to bag myself one, however ive been on the hunt and found it on ebay for 20£ which a baragain. Im buying for one of my many outfits for Reading Festival. (Just have to throw some love Fearne Cottons way right now she looks good in everything she wears, i want this girls wardrobe!!!!)

I will actually cry if i do not get these boots for Reading. The Vivienne Westwood Melissa boots are sooo gorgous and the must have fashion festival item. I have my eye on both pairs , the purple ones to go with the kiss-o-meter dress above as i think this make a cute outfit, i also love the navy with gold buttons pair as they run with the whole nautical trend going on right now. They are currently on sale at asos for £90. Im praying these boots go in the sale after a few months, for a student £90 is quite pricey to spend on plastic boots, i could have like 10 nights out on that lol

First up are the 'hot right now' black leather gold studded Phillip Lim gloves. All the celebs are in them and set u back a measly (lol) £360 from net-a-porter.com, next are the most outragous but gorgeous Sass & Bide bullet paneled leggings which are £890 and again from net-a-porter.com. Both of these teamed with a black lace top to the hips and YSL tributes is one outfit which is sure to turn heads...hmmmmm i want

Miu Miu Pink Swallow print silk shoes with gems, need i say anymore. I saw these a few months back and have dreamed of owning them ever since. People went mad for them when they came out and they have now, apparently, sold out worldwide, sadtimes. But at a cool 2,140$ i doubt i could of afforded them anyway. Second pair are from Miss KG range of Kurt Geiger. These shoes came out last year and were pretty popular, and so are back out again this year. They are only 80£ at debenhams and they look so good on.

This picture does these shorts no justice. They are cream lambskin leather shorts by chloe and cost about £1,205, they feel really nice on and are a lovely summer must have. Second piccy is from Pixie Lott's new range at Lipsy. Although my favourite clothing is vintage and individual pieces you won't find everyone else in, i am an essex girl at heart and love nothing more than a lipsy item to make me feel ready and dressed up for a night out. This studded fringed waistcoat is £38 and is a festival must have.

Ok so judging by the price of some of the things on my wishlist you can probably assume i wnt be purchasing them and the term 'wish' is very apt, a gal can dream though right, i mean come on we don't all buy vogue to find out what our next purchase is going to be, we buy it too drool over the things we want and the things rich bitches have.
